President’s Remarks – May 2019

Greetings! What a busy time for all of us in the fire service. The spring weather has been beautiful, and we have been receiving rain. Maybe too much.

I want to take this time to say, “Thank you,” to everyone that attended my retirement celebration on March 16. To say the least, I was very humbled by the over 400 friends that came and celebrated with me.

My wife and daughter did an outstanding job coordinating every last detail. All of the dignitaries and organization representatives presented special gifts that were very appreciated. It took many people to pull this together and I thank each of you.

President’s Remarks – March 2019

Spring is just around the corner and I am sure all of us are ready for its arrival. It has been a busy winter with many activities we have all attended. I know I am ready for the season to change and for the life to return to the trees and grass, and for things to come alive again.

Winter Fire School was a huge success thanks to MU FRTI’s hard work. Thank you for the commitment to educate our emergency service personnel. I did not make it to the Exposition this year but heard there was a very large crowd and that it was a huge success.

I was unable to attend the annual Missouri Fire Chief’s Conference at Big Cedar Resort this year. I heard it was an excellent conference with some outstanding presenters. I have been told that I received a Lifetime Achievement Award along with two of my longtime friends. I appreciate the thoughtfulness.

President’s Remarks – January 2019

I hope everyone had a good Christmas and wish all of you a great 2019. The winter weather had been very pleasant but now the rain has set in. There has been a lot of sickness around and people are now starting to recover. Hope everyone stays healthy.

1st Vice President Larry Jennings and Secretary/Treasurer Jaime Miller completed and presented the FFAM 2019 Budget to the Board of Directors at the December board meeting and it was approved. They both worked very hard to present a balanced budget. Thanks for your hard work.

Here we are in the first couple weeks of the New Year and have many activities already being planned for 2019. Some of those include the FFAM Board Meeting in Sedalia on January 27, Winter Fire School in Columbia on February 1-3, the MO-Chiefs Conference at Big Cedar, in Branson on February 21-23, the FFAM Convention in Sedalia in April, and our Annual Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial Services on May 18 and 19, in Kingdom City. Many long hours are being expended to ensure all of these events will be worthy of your participation. Hope to see many of you at these events.

President’s Remarks – November 2018

What a beautiful fall season so far. Cool, crisp air in the mornings and even though they are a couple of weeks late, the colors of the fall foliage remind us of the changing of the life cycles of Mother Nature.

I want to thank 1st Vice President Jennings for chairing the October board meeting in my absence. I appreciate people that have a “can do” attitude when asked to do something for the organization. That is what makes this group so great to work with.

President’s Remarks – September 2018

My first announcement, hosted by the FFAM Board of Directors and Assistants, the 2019 FFAM Convention is April 12-14, 2019, and will be held in Sedalia, Missouri. Please make plans and reservations as soon as possible.

Schools are back in session or soon will be and we are all winding down our summer activities and vacations. It has been a very busy summer for many of us.

I again had the opportunity to be at the State Fair Fire Department during the state fair and seeing many old friends and the opportunity to visit with a few of our legislators. It is always encouraging to see so many firefighters and EMS personnel from all over the state come together to serve the fairgoers. My personal thanks go out to each of you for your professionalism, commitment and faithfulness to FFAM. This was another good fair, the weather provided a few storms. Again, this year there were several new firefighter and EMS personnel. Great job everyone. Continue Reading →

President’s Remarks – July 2018

What a great annual Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial Services held on May 19-20, 2018, at the Auxvasse Elementary School. I believe this is the most important activity I am involved in every year.

As they have done for many years, Chief Greg Lubbert and crew, Central Callaway Fire Protection District spent many hours cleaning all of the granite walls and other tasks the Thursday night prior to the services. Chief Lubbert and others have faithfully overseen this task year after year. Thanks!

Many hours were also given for the Candlelight Service and the Sunday Morning Services. Keith Smith, Warrenton Fire Protection District and Bill Albus, Little Dixie Fire Protection District/Missouri State Fire Marshal office, worked many hours gathering information and developing the programs for both services. I thank both of you! Continue Reading →

Fire Marshal’s Update – May 2018

What a busy time for all of us in the fire service. The spring weather has been beautiful, and we have not been receiving any rain to amount to anything. As far as the weather goes, everyone at the FFAM Annual Convention in St. Joe, Missouri told me it was one of the best that they can remember in many years. I want to thank Gail Hagans for all of the photographs. She did an outstanding job of recording the history of the 2018 FFAM Convention. I have yet to go through all of the photographs. History is so important, please never forget that.

The opening ceremony on Friday night went well and I appreciate everyone that attended. The contests were well attended and a crowd of around 250 was in attendance at the Saturday night banquet. All of these things I mentioned did not just happen by chance, but was because of a well planned and executed effort by the St. Joseph FD and the Convention Committee led by Chief Larry Jones of the Madison Fire Protection District.

Congratulations also to all the award winners and contest winners. I will let the committee chairs write about this in their articles. The speaker at the banquet did a good job. Continue Reading →
