The Museum Project – March 2016

A special thanks to all who came by to see us at the recent Winter Fire School. Those who came helped the fund raising by purchasing $789 worth of raffle tickets for the Henry “Firefighters” edition rifle. In addition, another $111 was collected in sales and donations. To top it off, I just received word from Texas Roadhouse that we made $511 on their dining for donations promotion. They said this was the largest amount ever raised at that restaurant. I know a lot of you did not stay because of the long wait. We are already approved for next year. I may try to go to other restaurants to see if they will do the same thing for us. Let me know the restaurants you might like me to contact at ffammuseum@gmail.com. Continue Reading →

The Museum Project – January 2016

Texas RoadhouuseThis issue will be a short update about what is going on with the firefighters’ museum. I just wanted to share a few things that are going on.

We will receive $810 in 2016 from the Missouri State Employees Charitable Campaign.

We are once again participating in dining for donations at Texas Roadhouse on February 5, during the Winter Fire School. I have attached the flyer for this event. I would like to encourage those in attendance to go to Texas Roadhouse on Friday evening and give them the flyer and we will get 10% of their purchase for the museum project.

It is not too early to start promoting the Fire Fighters’ Field of Flags. Attached is an order form.

We will have a table at the Winter Fire School in the atrium. I encourage all to stop by and make a donation or just get some information.

Thank you,
Dr. Ron Baker

The Museum Project – July 2015

rifleMy report will be brief this month. I had an accident last week and fractured, shattered is more accurate, a bone in my left pinky finger. I have to type by the “airplane” method, circle and land.

Thanks to many of you, we posted 100 flags for the memorial service this year. We sold 61 flags, had about 20 retained from last year, posted 7 line of duty death flags and used others to make the 100. Thanks for your support, they were impressive blowing on the hill by our memorial.

We have been approved for the Missouri State Employees Charitable Campaign for 2016-17. Kickoff will be in August. Anyone who is a state employee can designate a contribution from their check each month. As soon as I have our identification number, I will share it with you.

We will also be having a fund-raising event at Texas Roadhouse in February at Winter Fire School. That Friday evening they will donate 10% of your purchase to the museum project. This year they made total donations of $700. Plan on helping us with this opportunity.

FFAM is raffling a Henry .22 rifle, Firefighter Edition. The rifle and special display case will be drawn for at the 2016 state convention. The rifle, valued at $1,000 was donated by County Guns, Midwest Cerakote, Jay Weinstein and Partners Insurance. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. You can email me at ffammuseum@ gmail.com for information on how to get your tickets. Proceeds will go to the museum project. You can also call me at 573-220-8344.

I would like to challenge each department to do a fund-raising event during the year for “your” museum. 100 departments raising $500 each would generate $50,000. I am willing to work with you on these. Texas Roadhouse in your area will work with us as will other restaurants and business establishments. Together, we can do this!

Fireman’s Landing Opens at Silver Dollar City

sdc-1April 11, 2015 was a red (fire truck) letter day at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri. In the fall of 2014, Silver Dollar City announced the reworking of their kiddie section and naming it “Fireman’s Landing”. The focus of the new area was to honor and pay tribute to firefighters everywhere. The 10 new attractions would each tell the story of the value and accomplishments of firefighters who serve communities all over the world. Of particular note was the encouragement for individuals to volunteer and serve.

On April 11 at the park’s opening, firefighters from all over Missouri gathered with family, friends and park visitors in the square. Fire Fighters’ Association of Missouri was the lead organization in the ceremonies which would follow. The gathered crowd was entertained by the outstanding Pinto Pride Marching Band from California, Missouri. Brad Thomas, CEO of Silver Dollar City and Lisa Rau, Director of Public Relations joined representatives of FFAM for the beginning of the festivities. Chief Kenny Hoover, President of FFAM led the invocation and other noted persons were introduced. Continue Reading →

The Museum Project – May 2015

Thanks to all who made the grand opening of Fireman’s Landing at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri, such a fantastic event. I have heard nothing but positive comments about the event and the way we were treated and entertained by the staff of Silver Dollar City. They really went all out to accommodate the FFAM and other guests. How about the cruise on the Branson Belle? My wife and I enjoyed it so much, we went back the next week. What a fantastic weekend. Thanks to all who participated. Thanks, Charlie, for all you did!

I just got word that the museum project has been approved for another 2 years by the Missouri State Employees Charitable Campaign. If you know of folks who work for the state, let them know they can participate and designate our project to receive funds. Continue Reading →

The Museum Project – March 2015

The past few months have been very busy getting ready for the grand opening of “Fireman’s Landing” at Silver Dollar City in Branson. They have invited FFAM to be front and center for the opening ceremony on April 11. Selections are being made for 13 firefighters and families to be special guests and honorees at the ceremony and Charlie Neubert has done a fantastic job of working directly with SDC on the logistics. I am hoping that FFAM can flood SDC on the 11th for that great ceremony. I have had the privilege of seeing the partially finished area and am eager to see the completed location. It will be an area dedicated to you who serve in communities all over Missouri and beyond, and remind children how much you do to serve. There will be 6 specially designed activities for children, all centered around firefighters, and 4 additional rides for all others. Station #3 is the centerpiece and has an authentic “bell” on top. Make your plans to bring your family to SDC on the 11th of April and take part in this memorable event. Continue Reading →

The Museum Project – November 2014

By the time you get this newsletter I will have returned from attending a seminar sponsored by the fire museum network. This is made up of firefighter’s museums all across the United States. We will be meeting in Jeffersonville, Indiana. I hope to get some information on fundraising possibilities and possible grant applications we might access in order to raise some of the funds for our museum. I also hope to get some feedback about their museums and how they put them together. We will tour several area museums and be able to see firsthand what the possibilities are.

At the recent FFAM board meeting, I heard of several businesses, mostly eating establishments, who do fundraising drives for various charitable organizations. Do you know of any in your communities who would do one for our project? You can let me know or contact them on my behalf and see if we can get some local support for this project. I will be contacting several Texas Roadhouse restaurants across Missouri to see if they will do one for us. Please contact me. Continue Reading →
