The Foundation Update – November 2019

The Funeral Assistance Team is in the process of adding two new and larger trailers to better accommodate weight and length of inventory. Both will be replacing existing equipment and better suited for cross state and occasionally out of state assistance. Brain has wrapped up registering and titling, next steps are custom lettering followed by the change-over of equipment. Both could be in service by December 1. In the next newsletter we will have pictures of the two new trailers and Brian will provide a wrap-up of this project, a summary of their work for 2019 and his thoughts and comments regarding 2020.

As 2019 nears conclusion, the Foundation begins the annual focus in gathering information on those who have served and passed in 2019 and those we may have missed in 2018. The 2020 Services will be held May 16-17. The Candlelight Service is May 16 at 9:00 p.m. or dark which ever comes later. The Sunday Morning Service on May 17, will start at 10:30 a.m. Regardless of weather, both services will be held at the memorial grounds. Services will be held outside around the service walls if weather cooperates or inside of the museum if weather does not.

If you have a loved one or know of someone who has passed we need to know. I will gladly accept dozens of duplicate notifications rather than miss anyone deserving of honors. The Foundation uses a three year guideline in accepting those for honors. For this service, those who have passed in 2019 and those we may have missed which passed in 2018 or 2017. Also, if the family elects to do so, we will recognize January through March of 2020, versus waiting another for the 2021 services. Due to logistics, we cannot offer April of 2020.

The Museum Project – July 2015

rifleMy report will be brief this month. I had an accident last week and fractured, shattered is more accurate, a bone in my left pinky finger. I have to type by the “airplane” method, circle and land.

Thanks to many of you, we posted 100 flags for the memorial service this year. We sold 61 flags, had about 20 retained from last year, posted 7 line of duty death flags and used others to make the 100. Thanks for your support, they were impressive blowing on the hill by our memorial.

We have been approved for the Missouri State Employees Charitable Campaign for 2016-17. Kickoff will be in August. Anyone who is a state employee can designate a contribution from their check each month. As soon as I have our identification number, I will share it with you.

We will also be having a fund-raising event at Texas Roadhouse in February at Winter Fire School. That Friday evening they will donate 10% of your purchase to the museum project. This year they made total donations of $700. Plan on helping us with this opportunity.

FFAM is raffling a Henry .22 rifle, Firefighter Edition. The rifle and special display case will be drawn for at the 2016 state convention. The rifle, valued at $1,000 was donated by County Guns, Midwest Cerakote, Jay Weinstein and Partners Insurance. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. You can email me at ffammuseum@ gmail.com for information on how to get your tickets. Proceeds will go to the museum project. You can also call me at 573-220-8344.

I would like to challenge each department to do a fund-raising event during the year for “your” museum. 100 departments raising $500 each would generate $50,000. I am willing to work with you on these. Texas Roadhouse in your area will work with us as will other restaurants and business establishments. Together, we can do this!

Chairperson Smith advised that since we only have 7 board members present that does not consist of a quorum so any votes needed will be continued for approval by telephone or e-mail if needed. Several members had last minute changes and could not make the meeting. Doc Kritzer will be arriving late if possible.

Motion was made by Ken Hoover to accept the resignation of Randy Cole, 2nd by Don Wilmesher. Motion carried with a quorum of 7 members.

Keith Smith discussed the recent passing of his father, Vice Chairman Art Smith. Keith thanked the foundation members for the support and from the support of the funeral assistance team. The family is very grateful to all that were present and for the many long hours in preparation for the services. Chief Hoover advised the Memorial Board presented a memorial statute to the Smith family for the many years of dedication and service to the Memorial and to the entire family of FFAM.
