News From District 2 – 03-2018

Hello from District 2. Everyone in our area has been busy, as I am sure you have been. I was able to attend the Lewistown Fire Department soup supper and the Western Lewis County Fire Department pancake breakfast. Great food and great fellowship. If you have something going on in District 2 let me know. If my schedule will allow I would love to come.

Make sure you mark your calendar for several events that’s coming up. First- there has been two classes set up that are very important. The first is Saturday April 7. It will be held at the Marion County Ambulance Training center, 142 Jaycee Drive, Hannibal MO. This free class, Introduction to Line of Duty Death/Public Safety Officers Benefits, is open to all individuals, fire, police, and EMS, that might be involved with your organization if a LODD occurs. Lunch is provided. Due to classroom size, the class will be limited to forty. The second one is Friday, October 19. It will be held at the Inn at Grand Glaze resort in Osage Beach. Again, this is a free class. We are working on getting lunch provided there as well. A flyer is available by e-mailing your request to gwright000@gmail.com. Pre-registration is required for either class, by e-mailing your name, organization, which class you are attending, and how many will be attending to, gwright000@gmail.com. Registration is now open for both classes.

May 4-6, will be the 2018 FFAM Convention. This year it will be held in St. Joseph, Missouri. See the FFAM website for all the information and to get registered. The competitions will be held on Saturday so make sure you get your teams registered as well. Again, all the information is in the newsletter and on the website.

The one that is near and dear to my heart and many of yours, is the 2018 Missouri Fallen Firefighter Memorial weekend. Held in Kingdom City at the memorial, Candlelight Service starts at 9:00 p.m. on May 19, and the Memorial Service is Sunday, at 10:30 a.m. on May 20. This year, we will be honoring, I believe three individuals that gave the ultimate sacrifice. Along with many, over twenty individuals that served in the fire service and have passed away. I hope to see everyone there.

Also the Firefighter Memorial Foundation meets on February 18. We are getting closer and closer to having a Education and Historic Preservation Project next to the memorial a reality. It has been a long time coming. We still need your help. Your donation to the Education and Historic Preservation Project can help make this project a reality. Go to: ffam.org and click on the preservation project to see all the ways you can help.

If you are interested in being a part of the 2018 Missouri State Fair Fire Department on August 9-20, make sure to get your application in ASAP. Applications can be found in this newsletter.

This is just a few things that are going on. Till next time, be safe!
