FFAM 2017 Convention Details

The 2016 FFAM Convention is behind us and hopefully all that were able to attend had a great time and were able to make new and re-visit old friendships. The convention is in part about getting the business of the organization done, but is also about the fellowship and strengthening of each of us at a personal level as we continue to participate in an often thankless job that can be filled with a roller coaster of positive and negative experiences.

Convention 2017 is being hosted by the State Fair Fire Department and the committee has been working hard to make next year’s convention a successful and rewarding experience for each of you. We hope you will start making plans now to attend and will spread the word to everyone you work with so they can make plans to attend also.

We have opted to continue the theme from the last convention hosted by the State Fair Fire Department “Mutual Aid at Its Best” as this truly reflects the functionality of the department and the basis of the entire organization as we all work together to make the fire service in Missouri the best it can be.

At this point it looks like we will follow the 2016 model and will only have vendors on hand for the Friday of convention based on feedback we obtained from those participating the last few years. We plan to have at least two educational courses available on Friday also, which will be certified board training and the recruitment and retention series courses. The opening ceremony, mixer, banquet and dance will all follow the more traditional format and of course, the business meeting will be on Sunday morning.

Since we are still in the planning stages we would of course entertain other suggestions if you have any and will take them under advisement. If you know of anyone that would like to advertise in the convention book, have a vendor booth, sponsor any of the activities or in some other way contribute to the convention let us know so we can include everyone we possibly can. The convention is for the membership and we want to provide an event that is beneficial to all. If you have any suggestions please contact Larry Jennings, Grant Oetting or send us your ideas through Jaime Miller at the main FFAM contacts.

Registration, contest, vendor and other associated forms will be printed in upcoming newsletters and will be available on the website at a later date so keep watching and get them submitted as early as possible. As we develop further plans for the convention we will keep you posted.

We have visited with the local lodging establishments and have negotiated with them to secure rates for your convenience. When contacting them make sure you mention your stay is associated with the FFAM convention. The campground on the fairgrounds will be available again for those that want to bring their own room along. Please contact your lodging choice direct to secure your rooms.
