President’s Remarks – September 2017

Schools are back in session or soon will be and we are all winding down all of our summer activities and vacations. It has been a very busy summer for many of us.

I again had the opportunity to be at the State Fair Fire Department during the state fair and pleasure of seeing many old friends and the opportunity to visit with many of our legislators. It is always encouraging to see so many firefighters and EMS personnel from all over the state come together to serve the fair goers. My personal thanks go out to each of you for your professionalism, commitment and faithfulness to FFAM. This was another great fair. The weather provided a few storms but very little damage, a couple of canceled concerts, but other than that, it was pretty smooth. Again this year there were several new firefighter and EMS personnel. It is very encouraging to work with new people and see the excitement in their face and their willingness to work so hard. Great job everyone. Continue Reading →

President’s Remarks – July 2017

This newsletter article brings me to the annual Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial Services held on May 20-21, 2017, in Kingdom City. I believe this is the most important activity I am involved in every year and will commit a large portion of my article to.

As they have done for many years, I thank Chief Greg Lubbert of the Central Callaway Fire Protection District and Chief Lana Karhoff of the North Callaway Fire Protection District that spent many hours cleaning all of the granite walls and other tasks the Thursday night prior to the services. Chief Lubbert and Chief Karhoff have faithfully overseen this task year after year.

A special thank you to Lieutenant Steve Nichols from the Little Dixie Fire Protection District for overseeing the maintenance on the memorial again this year. Lieutenant Nichols always has everything looking good for the annual services. There are many people that helped Steve with this task, including many of the foundation board members. Thanks to everyone. Continue Reading →

President’s Remarks – May 2017

What a busy time for all of us in the fire service. The spring weather has been beautiful and we have been receiving rain on a timely manner. As far as the weather goes, everyone at the FFAM Annual Convention in Sedalia, Missouri, in April told me it was one of the best that they can remember in many years. It rained during the night on Friday but by Saturday morning the rain had stopped and the sky was overcast which provided an ideal condition for the competitions. I want to thank Gail Hagans-Reynolds for all of the photographs. She did an outstanding job of recording the history of the 2017 FFAM Convention. I have yet to go through all of the photographs.

The opening ceremony on Friday night went well and I appreciate everyone that attended. The contests were well attended and a crowd of around 300 was in attendance at the Saturday night banquet. All of these things I mentioned did not just happen by chance, but was because of a well planned and executed effort by the State Fair Fire Department Convention Committee led by Chief Larry Jennings of the Johnson County Fire Protection District. President’s Remarks – March 2017

I believe the groundhog just might have been wrong this time. Spring is just around the corner and I am sure all of us are ready for its arrival. It has been a busy winter with many activities we all attended. I know I am ready for the season to change and for the life to return to the trees and grass and for things to come alive again.

Winter Fire School was a huge success thanks to MU FRTI’s hard work. Thank you for the commitment to educate our emergency service personnel. I believe I saw and visited with many of you at the Expo on Friday. Continue Reading →

President’s Remarks – January 2017

I hope everyone had a good Christmas and wish all of you a great 2017. The winter weather has been very pleasant along with some minor rains. There has been very little sickness around that I have heard about. Hope everyone stays healthy.

1st Vice President Tim Bean and Secretary /Treasurer Jaime Miller completed and presented the FFAM 2017 budget to the board of directors at the December board meeting and it was approved. They both worked very hard to present a balanced budget. Thanks for your hard work.

Here we are in the first couple weeks of the New Year and we have many activities already being planned for 2017. Some of those include; a FFAM board meeting in Sedalia on January 29, Winter Fire School in Columbia on February 3-5, the MO-Chiefs conference at Big Cedar, in Branson on February 24-26, Firefighters Day at the Capitol in Jefferson City on April 5, the FFAM convention in Sedalia this April, and our Annual Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial Services on May 20 and 21 in Kingdom City. Many long hours are being expended to ensure all of these events will be worthy of your participation. I hope to see many of you at these events. Continue Reading →

President’s Remarks – November 2016

What a beautiful fall season so far. It could stay like this until Christmas. Cool, crisp air in the mornings and the brilliant colors of the fall foliage remind us of the changing of the life cycles of Mother Nature.

This is a very busy time of the year for many of us, Fire Prevention Week is just ending, deer season is just beginning, Halloween in just a few days, Thanksgiving quickly arriving, and then the Christmas holidays wrapping up the year. If that does not fill up your calendar, I don’t know what would.

Also, Chief Larry Jennings from the Johnson County Fire Protection District is heading up the 2017 convention committee that the FFAM State Fair Fire and Rescue Department is hosting. Please become involved in this great work. The convention is only great if all of us work to make it great. I am looking forward to an excellent convention to be held on the Missouri State Fair Grounds in 2017. Continue Reading →
